Chemung County may experience minor flooding Saturday morning as the Chemung River crests, County Executive Chris Moss advised Friday evening.
Moss said the county anticipates some flooding in low lying areas including the Lowman Crossover and areas along state Route 352 in the Town of Big Flats.
"Please plan accordingly for your Saturday morning travels," Moss stated on social media.
NOAA predicts the Chemung River will crest at 12.3 feet at 8 a.m. Saturday in the "minor flood" stage. The "moderate" stage begins at 15 feet.
"Please remember 'Turn around don't drown,'" Moss advised. "Never drive thru moving water above 6 inches."
Approximately 1,000 NYSEG customers in the towns of Baldwin and Elmira lost power Friday during the storm. By 6 p.m. the number was down to 178, with power expected to be restored later Friday night.
The worst of the storm hit to the west in Steuben County and northern Pennsylvania as the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby moved through the area.
Steuben County declared a state of emergency and ordered evacuations of several towns, including Addison, Woodhull, Campbell and Canisteo.
Many roads remain closed, and shelters for displaced residents have been set up in Corning and Hornell.
