Dam Safety Crisis | Department of Water and Sanitation has shortage of dam inspectors

2 hours ago 34

Parliament has heard that the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has a severe shortage of dam inspectors. The majority of South Africa's dams are not inspected every five years, as mandated by national regulations. Last month, a series of three dams collapsed leaving 107 people homeless and destroyed the livelihoods of small scale farmers in Riverlands, near the town of Malmesbury. To talk more about the dam safety crisis we are joined virtually by Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister, David Mahlobo. For more news, visit sabcnews.com and #SABCNews on all Social Media platforms.
