3 hours ago 28

Born in South Africa in 1927, Dumasile "Duma" Nokwe's name means "thunder on a cloudless day," reflecting his impactful presence during a tumultuous era. As a dedicated leader alongside icons like Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu, he played a pivotal role in the fight against apartheid, advocating for the constitutional rights and freedoms that many, including himself, were denied. Nokwe overcame significant challenges, earning his BSc in 1949 and an LLB in 1955. In 1956, he made history as the first black advocate admitted to the Bar, symbolising a relentless pursuit of equality. Today, the Duma Nokwe Group of Advocates embodies his spirit of transformation and commitment to justice, carrying forward the values for which he fought.
