EXPLAINER: What is social housing and how does it work in the City of Cape Town?

Between 1997 and 2023, 5,092 social housing units were built in the City of Cape Town. Daily Maverick has put together a map of sites across the metro holding developments that are completed or under construction, as well as those that were earmarked for projects but have seen little or no progress.
