Dr Ahmed el-Mokhallalati, head of plastic surgery at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, remained in the hospital during Israel’s siege in November. He described the challenges of treating patients with limited resources, like using sugar and vinegar to clean wounds due to a shortage of medical supplies. Despite lacking essentials, such as sterile water and anaesthesia, medical staff did their best under dire conditions. Dr Mokhallalati expressed his frustration over losing patients due to inadequate care and resources, despite knowing the proper treatments.
