Israel-Hezbollah conflict: Escalating fears of a broader regional war

1 month ago 69

There's been more Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. Several properties and farmland were destroyed in the strike in the district of Tyre. Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israeli forces have been trading fire since the 8th of October last year. As an ally of Hamas, Hezbollah says its attacks on Israeli military sites are in support of Palestinians in Gaza. Israel has assassinated numerous senior Hezbollah commanders in recent months. It's escalated fears of a broader regional conflict. In Israel, ambulance services are stocking up on blood supplies, and hazardous materials have been moved out of factories. The army there remains on high alert in the face of threatened retaliatory strikes on Israel by Iran and its allies in the region. This follows the assassination of Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran last week, a strike for which Tehran has vowed “revenge”.
