President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa will continue to support efforts to find lasting peace in the Middle East. He made the statement in his weekly letter to the nation, on the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel. 1 200 Israelis were killed in the attack which sparked an onslaught in which more than 40 000 Palestinians have been killed. The President has warned that the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which now includes Lebanon's Hezbollah group and Iran, threatens to plunge the region into a war in which civilians will be the most affected.
