The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, addressed the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon in a live speech, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian, political, diplomatic, and moral crises. He emphasised the immense human suffering in Gaza, where over 41,000 people have reportedly been killed, mostly women and children, with thousands still missing. The entire population of Gaza has been displaced, with journalists and humanitarian workers facing unprecedented dangers, many of whom have lost their lives. Guterres warned against Israeli draft legislation that could end UNRWA’s essential work, noting its catastrophic consequences. He condemned violations of international humanitarian law, stressing that civilians must be protected, and called for an immediate ceasefire and a two-state solution.
