UPDATE: Helene upgraded to hurricane, potential for Category 4

As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Helene was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. It's about 85 miles northeast of Cozumel, Mexico, moving northwest at 10 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. The storm is expected to make a northerly trek, potentially making landfall as a major hurricane between Tallahassee and Tampa. A Hurricane Watch is posted from Englewood to Anclote River, including Tampa Bay in Florida. A Hurricane Warning is in effect from Anclote River to Mexico Beach in Florida. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for all of North Georgia, including metro Atlanta. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles from the center of the storm.
