As the country celebrates Heritage Day, South Africans have been urged to remember the threatened animal species in biodiversity. Rhinos are critically endangered, with fewer than 30 000 in the wild. These large mammals are being slaughtered for their horns, especially the black rhino. The Kruger National Park has the largest concentration of these animals, and has several anti-poaching measures in place to save this important natural heritage. About 230 rhinos have been poached in the country this year, mostly in KwaZulu-Natal. For more news, visit sabcnews.com and #SABCNews on all Social Media platforms.
