COSATU embarks on nationwide protests

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) marked this year's World Day for Decent Work with protest actions across the country - decrying the economic crisis characterised by high unemployment and the high cost of living. In Johannesburg, Cosatu handed over a memorandum of demands to several company representatives at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Its demands include an end to retrenchments across various sectors, implementation of the National Health Insurance and a solution to the high cost-of-living crisis.
