Tropical Storm Helene is expected to rapidly intensify and strengthen into a major Category 3 hurricane before making landfall late Thursday in the Big Bend Region of Florida, bringing powerful winds and extreme flooding to portions of Florida’s Gulf Coast amid the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. The storm reached Tropical Storm status on Tuesday after previously being labeled Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, though meteorologists knew it would strengthen into a major hurricane prior to that, leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to issue a “state of emergency” for a majority of the state’s counties. Michael Estime, a meteorologist at Fox Weather joined LiveNOW from FOX’s Josh Breslow from St. Pete Beach outside of Tampa, Florida with a look at conditions and what to expect as we track Helene.
