Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development, Mzwanele Nyhontso visited Nxuba in the Eastern Cape to engage with sugar-beet farmers in the Inxuba Yethemba Municipality. The aim is to forge a way forward regarding biofuel production to make South Africa a player in the renewable energy space. This comes against the backdrop of the national department acquiring 25 farms in the area for this exact purpose. Through a process of fermentation, the sugar beets can be converted into biofuels that will aid in ultimately reducing the price of petrol and electricity.
