Thousands of mourners gathered for the service of the group, all members of the same family. They were reportedly preparing for a traditional ceremony when they were ambushed by heavily armed people in the early hours of last Saturday. The motive behind the shooting is not yet known. The religious community in Lusikisiki has appealed to the government to act on the rising levels of gun violence in the area.
