Tshiamiso Trust hits R7 billion claims for mineworkers

Despite hitting the R1.7 billion payout milestone, the Tshiamiso Trust says it still struggles with getting the correct documents to lodge claims, and claimants are not updating their contact details. The Trust was established to disburse compensation funds to mineworkers afflicted with silicosis and work-related Tuberculosis. In 2019, the high court approved a R5-billion settlement by six gold mining companies, African Rainbow Minerals, Anglo American, AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields, Harmony and Sibanye-Stillwaters.
